There are many practices that help prevent fires from starting and spreading. Some of these include:

• Make sure all electric appliances in the house are in good condition and properly plugged in.
• Never leave cooking food unattended on the stove.
• Cleaning the Stovetop and Oven regularly after using them.
• Avoid any indoor smoking.
• Keeping flammable objects like curtains, bedsheets, rugs and clothes away from the heat sources like stoves and fireplaces.
• Always have a working smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector in your home.
• Keep a Fire extinguisher at home, especially near the kitchen.
• Close doors behind you when entering or leaving rooms in your house.
• Do not overload outlets with plugs and extension cords.
• Never use a stove, an indoor fireplace, oven, grill, deep fryer or anything of the sort for heating your house.
• Be aware of all smoke alarms inside your house. Keep checking the batteries and replace them when necessary.
• At least maintain a 3 feet of “breezeway” to the front and back doors of your house in order for firefighters to enter in the event of a fire.
• Always keep all the flammable goods inside the house in check. Keep them away from any heat source.
• Never overload outlets with plugs and extension cords they may cause a fire in case of a short circuit.
• Keep your mind in the present, it’s best to heat one single room in winter using a heat source and then turning it off when leaving. Don’t try to use a stove or any other heat source to heat multiple rooms inside your house.
