Who Is The Real Monster In Frankenstein

If we talk about monsters, we imagine as if we see scary faces and black hearts. However, at times, the actual monster stays behind a pleasant face and civilities. One big question gets puzzled in the mind of readers after reading Mary Shelley’s famous novel Frankenstein. who is actually the real monster of this story?

Is it the creature that was brought to life or the scientist who gave his life to him and then abandoned him? This question has been the subject of controversies for many years as both of the characters did things that can be regarded as wrong or destructive. Nonetheless, a person may claim that the real devil, as opposed to his outward appearance is determined by his actions and choices he makes.

A Question of Blame: Determination of the real darkness in Frankenstein.

To understand “who is the real monster in Frankenstein”, we must look at both Victor Frankenstein and his creation. Victor wanted to play God. He formed life though he did not take the responsibility for it. As soon as the creature arose Victor was scared and escaped, and left the creature alone and confused. This rejection hurt the heart of the creature badly to make him act in anger.

On the other hand, the creature did hurt innocent people. He only went violent after being subjected to constant hate, fear and loneliness. Initially, he was nice and curious. He desired love and friendship but he did not get it. This makes us ask again: “who is the real monster in Frankenstein?” It is the one who applied pain based on fear and pride or one who responds to being unloved and un-wanted?

The story teaches us that it does not make you a monster merely because you look like one, it is in the way you treat people that makes you a monster. At times, the real monster has nothing to do with the appearance as no one scary, but the one who is without kindness and care.
